Fibre to the Home

Fibre to the home will transform the way we communicate with the world, and stimulate the development of many new services to our homes.

As well as fast, reliable internet, and lower cost telephone calling, expect to see the development of exciting new services - such as TV on demand, home entertainment, cloud based services and high definition video calling. 

Enable will be delivering fibre to homes in our region under the Government’s UFB programme starting in 2012.  It is expected to take around 7 years to complete all homes in Christchurch, Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Woodend, Lincoln, Rolleston and Prebbleton.

Enable Fibre to the Home Connections

A single fibre connection into your home will be capable of delivering many different services from many different phone and internet companies, and other specialist service providers.

Like with today's copper-based services, a range of products delivered over Enable Fibre will be available from your preferred phone or internet company, depending on your bandwidth needs. These residential products will range from 30Mbps to 100Mbps download speeds and from 10Mbps to 50Mbps upload speeds - many times faster than today's broadband.

In addition, if you are a professional or business working from a residential address and require faster speed - 1000Mbps or even higher - you will be able to get business fibre services into your home without having to have your home connected to a dedicated business network.

Fibre broadband speeds are also not affected by distance, unlike copper-based services, meaning you will be able to request guaranteed service speeds to your home...so why would anyone want to stay on the copper network.
