Christchurch company Enable Networks, formerly Christchurch City Networks Limited, has been employed by the Christchurch City Council to provide the latest fibre-optic technology to install crime prevention cameras in the central city, helping to ensure people are safe.
Enable Networks Chief Executive Steve Fuller says his company is excited to be involved in such a worthwhile project for Christchurch.
“We all want a safe place to live and the recently installed crime prevention cameras will help to ensure this is the case,” he says.
“Our world-class fibre optic technology provides a reliable, ultra fast and secure connection between the cameras and the Police control centre. These high-resolution images can then be instantly monitored, helping Police to locate offenders and make the city a safe place for everybody.”
Twenty-five new crime prevention cameras were switched on in the city last week, helping Police reduce central city crime and violence.
Steve Fuller says the significance of his company’s work was revealed on a recent visit to the Police control room.
“The value of this project really hit home for me when I was being shown the control room. A senior constable took me aside and looked me straight in the eye and simply said “thank you”. Knowing we had made a difference put a smile on my face for the rest of the day,” he says.
Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker says the Council’s decision to spend almost $1million on the additional crime prevention cameras was to help create a safer city for residents and visitors to Christchurch, while ensuring we have a vibrant night-time economy.
“Making Christchurch the safest city in New Zealand has always been a top priority for this Council. Early in the term we adopted a zero tolerance for violence policy and have been proactive in reducing crime and violence in the city,” he says.
“These crime prevention cameras are just one of the safety measures the Council has introduced in the last 18 months and I am confident the cameras will make a difference.”
Enable Networks has already invested $15 million to lay more than 100 kilometres of ultra fast fibre optic network cable in Christchurch, which many organisations are already using.
The company plans to invest a further $36 million to expand the network.
